Mounts Bay Pilot Gig Club has had a strong start to the racing season in March, sending several crews up to compete at the Three Rivers Race in Saltash; to Falmouth’s event and last weekend to Helford’s Mini Scillies regatta.

Challenging choppy swell at Helford’s river mouth and racing into 30 mph winds, the racing saw several newly formed crews test their mettle against other 21 crews from as far away as Bristol, coming away with a 3rd place for the Supervets Ladies A ( in the Vets race), a 6th place for the Mens Vets, 7th for the Mens A in the Open event, 9th for the Mens Supervets, while the Ladies B gained a creditable 11th place in the Open event against A crews, and the Ladies Supervets also took 11th place.

The next major event will be the World Championships held over the May Bank Holiday weekend, while Pendeen hosts their event this coming weekend at Sandy Cove, Newlyn.
