About Us
Brief Outline
Mount's Bay Pilot Gig Club sets out to serve the community for the rowing needs. From when the moment the club was established in 1986, the club has only got bigger and achieved brilliant feats. The titles that we hold have only come from the club working tightly together, from the senior management committee, to the designated officers and the membership that volunteer to do what ever it takes to make this club successful.
Honours
2008: Men's A crew - World Champions, Tribute Champions and County Champions. Ladies Veterans crew - County Champions and Runners up at the world championships. Under 16's crew - Tribute Champions and Runners up at the County Championships. Ladies A crew - 4th place at the World Championships and 6th at the County Championships.
Training and Equipment
We train throughout the year on and off the water to keep fit and aim for success at championship level in the summer months. We have two traditional Cornish Pilot Gigs for racing throughout the summer these being Kensa(2003) and Taran(1999), two plastic gigs for training throughout the year these being Breeze(2004) and Lady Sue(2007). We also own two flashboats for technical training. Our shed serves the purpose of housing Kensa and Taran whilst Breeze lives in a shed just up the road and Lady Sue living around the back of the main shed. We have recently gained access to a garage space which we have converted into a temporay gym. The gym has helped massively with winter training and allows club members access to rowing machines and a good setup of weights.
Ethos
Our aim is to give everyone the oppertunity to row atleast twice a week and use our facilities to co-ordinate as much rowing as possible. Having a club with 4 or 5 crews in both men's and womens it is difficult to co-ordinate to keep everyone happy, not to mention our very keen junior crew who also enjoy training several times a week. We do have facilities for Breeze to be sailed as opposed to rowed. This is for leisure primarily, but the annual sailing race at the World Championships may be to tempting for some so we encourage the membership to get involved.
